Forensic Psychiatry Fellowship Program

Intent

The Forensic Psychiatry Fellowship Program supports the development or expansion, and administration of accredited forensic psychiatry one-year fellowship training programs at health-related institutions in Texas.

Eligibility

Only accredited psychiatry training programs at health-related institutions are eligible to apply. The grant requires having available forensic rotations for all fellows and should follow the ACGME program requirements for graduate medical education in Forensic Psychiatry. Grantees are encouraged to collaborate with other funded institutions on the development of didactic and other educational experiences.

Incomplete and late submittals will not be considered for award.

Application Information

Applications submitted under this RFA must propose the development or expansion, and administration of one-year, ACGME-accredited forensic psychiatry fellowship training programs and must support the salaries and benefits of training physicians for a full year, including in cases where training spans fiscal years or extends beyond the Grant Period when THECB funding is no longer available.

To be considered for an AY26 FPFP grant award, eligible applicants must submit their application no later than 11:59 p.m. CT on March 2, 2026.

The Grant Period will begin upon execution of the Notice of Grant Award (NOGA) or on April 1, 2026, whichever is later, and will conclude on August 31, 2027.

The $5 million in total competitive grant funding is available for two years to support the salaries and benefits associated with the implementation of the training program, in addition to other resources that are used to develop and maintain the program. Each Grant Award is limited to a maximum of $555,555.55

Rules and Regulations

This program is authorized and appropriated by the 89th Texas Legislature, Regular Session through the General Appropriations Act, SB1, Article III, Rider 48. The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB, Coordinating Board, or agency) administers the FPFP under the general THECB grant rules at Texas Administrative Code, Title 19, Part 1, Chapter 10, Subchapter A, Rules §10.1-§10.8.
