The mission of the Coordinating Board is to serve as a resource, partner, and advocate for Texas higher education, resulting in a globally competitive workforce that positions Texas as an international leader.

The Coordinating Board will promote access to, and success in, quality higher education across the state with the conviction that access and success without quality is mediocrity, and that quality without access and success is unacceptable.

Key Functions

Provide a statewide perspective to ensure the efficient and effective use of higher education resources and to eliminate unnecessary duplication.

Develop and evaluate progress toward a long-range master plan for higher education.

Collect and make accessible data on higher education to support policy recommendations.

Make recommendations to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of transitions, including between high school and postsecondary education, between institutions of higher education for transfer purposes, and between postsecondary education and the workforce.

Administer programs and trusteed funds for financial aid and other grants as necessary to achieve the state's long-range goals and as directed by the Texas Legislature.
