Eli Heath of Flower Mound, Texas, was appointed to the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board by Governor Greg Abbott for a term beginning June 1, 2026. He will serve as the Board’s student representative through May 31, 2027.
Heath is pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering at Texas Tech University, with minors in bioengineering, biology, and chemistry. He is a student in the Texas Tech Honors College and a Barry M. Goldwater and National Merit Scholar.
Previously, Heath served as the 20th Student Regent for the Texas Tech University System Board of Regents, representing students across five universities and health-related institutions. He also conducts biomedical research funded by the National Institutes of Health, spanning laboratory science and population health. His work in pulmonary vascular disease and cancer has been featured in international peer-reviewed scientific journals. Heath also serves in leadership for a Lubbock-based nonprofit that provides free health clinics and health education across the region.
Heath lives in Lubbock, Texas, and remains active in volunteer and community leadership roles. After graduation, he plans to pursue a career as a physician-scientist.
