SAMs 1.2.1 The end goal of this research project is to enhance support for elementary teachers who graduate from the certification program at UNT to ensure they achieve excellence in teaching and become assets in their school communities. The research project goals include: Researched based support of these teachers in literacy and bi-literacy instruction in bi/multilingual classrooms; Research to enhance student success in the schools and communities they work in; To enhance the school climate for changes in practice and policy that benefit learners’ academic, linguistic, and social needs; To improve and reform teacher preparation through the systematic study of the UNT graduates in transition into teaching in Bilingual/ESL/Contexts. While this project draws on evidence-based practices (as in the coaching and support model to be used), we will gather data to become responsive to what is working well and what is not. We are planning for both ongoing formative evaluation as well as a summative evaluation of the project toward the stated goals.
