PLAN OF WORK: 1. Test the efficiency of using virus-based vectors to generate stable, site-specific, germ-line edits in the cotton genome, without tissue culture. Target genes for editing are those that influence the balance of vegetative and reproductive growth. The long-term goal is to improved crop management and enhanced yield; architectures benefiting robot harvesting is a prominent goal. 2. Use virus-based vectors to efficiently test hypotheses that manipulating the CLAVATA – WUSCHEL feedback circuit will promote formation of larger cotton bolls that may benefit management strategies that incorporate distributed agricultural robots.
