Distance Education Resources
Distance Education is any formal instruction that is not conducted on the home campus. This can include a wide range of modalities, from off-campus face-to-face to fully online courses and programs. Distance Education at all public institutions of higher education in Texas is designed to provide residents across the state with access to courses and programs that meet their needs. These policies are intended to ensure distance education course and program quality as well as to prevent unnecessary duplication of these courses and programs.
Private Postsecondary Institutions
The Coordinating Board authorizes accredited degree-granting private postsecondary institutions under a Certificate of Authorization and provides oversight of degree-granting private postsecondary institutions under a Certificate of Authority while they seek recognized accreditation. While operating in Texas, out-of-state public institutions are also required to seek authorization. Administrative rules governing degree-granting colleges and universities other than Texas public institutions can be found here: Chapter 7.
