Note:

This project is aimed at identifying functional variants influencing lipid variation and diabetes risk and will utilize comprehensive lipid profiles and WGS data in Mexican American individuals from extended pedigrees, with replication analyses to be performed in an independent Mexican American population. We have formed a multi-disciplinary team of investigators with a strong collaborative history to undertake the proposed project, and showcase our molecular genetic, statistical genetic, and lipidomic strengths. The project will utilize the multiple PI mechanism with myself from the Department of Human Genetics and South Texas Diabetes and Obesity Institute (UTRGV) and Prof. Peter Meikle from the Baker Heart and Diabetes Institute in Melbourne, Australia acting as PI’s. We feel that we have developed a very strong and capable team to lead this project to success. In addition, I am a permanent member of the Diabetes, Endocrinology and Metabolic Diseases B Subcommittee (DDK-B 1) of the Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases Initial Review Group, NIDDK.
