1.1.3 (SAM); The research goal of this project is to develop effective and efficient NoCs to support GPU-accelerated systems as new applications and hardware emerge. The educational goal is to enhance computer science and engineering education by incorporating hands-on activities based on this project into curricula and research training. Furthermore, the outcomes of this project will be maximizedby closely integrating research and educational activities. Specifically, this project intends to achieve the following research objectives: 1) develop computational models, simulators and benchmarks for NoC in GPU accelerated systems; 2) develop innovative NoC architectures tailored for GPUs; and 3) explore the emerging design paradigm of Active NoCs to exploit computing-in-the-network to improve computation/communication efficiency. The educational objectives are as follows: 1) develop effective strategies for teaching computer systems, and 2) promote computer system research among undergraduate and graduate students. The research and education plans are fully integrated. The research provides the foundation for the design of the educational activities, and the research will in turn be improved by incorporating the results of the student research activity.
