IRB Protocol #IRB-20-254; A small number of studies have examined pregnancy complications and birth outcomes among mothers with α-1 antitrypsin deficiency (AATD). These studies, most of which were case reports or small studies of <50 patients, have reported that either AATD, and/or altered levels of AAT in the serum or amniotic fluid of pregnant mothers, have been associated with pregnancy complications in the mother such as decreased lung function and spontaneous pneumothorax. In the fetus or infant a spectrum of negative birth outcomes were reported, including premature rupture of membranes, preeclampsia, intrauterine growth restriction, miscarriage, and increased nuchal translucency. In this proposed study we aim to explore the epidemiology of AATD-related pregnancies in a large case-control study of Danish children.
