Note:

The research contains two major components: theoretical and experimental studies. The experi-mental work will be mainly conducted at UNT by Dr. Cui and his students and some of the samples will be provided by a graduate student at University of Memphis. The research focuses at UNT will be on the 2D Si2Te3 material’s structure, optical and electrical properties at varies temperature in order to have a better understanding of its unique individual and collective structural excitations that contrib-ute to the properties. The research will be pursued synergistically by leveraging Dr. Shen's experience in first-principles theory and Dr. Cui’s expertise in nanomaterials fabrication and characterization. The experimental data obtained at UNT will be used for comparisons study with the theoretical calcu-lations obtained at the University of Memphis.
