The goal of the proposed research is to design, build, and characterize a functional prototypical microgravity gas-liquid separator for liquid amine CO2 removal system utilizing vortex style separator technology. The microgravity vortex phase separator could potentially function as a subsystem of an air revitalization system for NASA’s manned space exploration and habitats missions. The research plan involves three objectives of : (i) Design of a microgravity Vortex Phase Separator (VPS) for liquid amine CO2 removal system, (ii) Testing and characterization of the proposed VPS prototypical system, and (iii) Analyzing data and evaluation of VPS-based CO2 removal technology.
