Pilot of BETTER Literacy Mentoring at Pemba IFP and Chibututuine IFP * Support Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) of pilot implementation at Pemba Chibututuine IFPs o Write focus group protocol for Progresso M&E team to administer o Monitor attendance of formandos and children (in mentoring) through communication with coordinators of mentoring at Pemba and Chibututuine IFP o Continued instrument validation-- selectively administer (revised) Form A to children in Pemba (to see if instrument captures literacy development) o Actively build a community of practice around the coordinators-- use face-to-face interactions and interactions on social media (e.g., WhatsApp) to provide a space a community to be builts * Differentiate between first (Introductory) and second (Advanced) semesters of mentoring o Expand second to cover components more deeply (work to be done at Pemba) o Train “core training” team on Advanced semester Evaluation of Program * Revise the student assessment instrument (now called Form A) with a final version prepared for March 2020 data collection * Design and field test a Form B version of the student assessment * For March 2020 rollout, establish inter-rater reliability of data collection team o Prepare data collection training manual o Train data collection team for March 2020 data collection in all participating IFPs * Design observation instrument to capture success of the “transitioning” workshop (observations of formandos in estagios) * Administer formando post-assessment in Pemba * Collect attendance registers/rosters for formandos and children in Pemba Dissemination of Program Findings * At least one article (co-authored with site coordinators) on findings related to valuing of the program by formandos at Pemba.
