Program Title: N/A

The program of “Development and Mechanical Testing of Low Hysteresis Shape Memory Alloys” will cover a period of twelve (12) weeks. The goal of this research project is to identify and develop low hysteresis shape memory alloys (LHSMAs) for an SMA actuator application requiring the minimization of energy loss to the ambient environment by minimizing the difference between the upper cycle temperature of the actuator and the ambient environment. To accomplish the project goal, the objectives of this research program are to 1) melt small button samples of promising LHSMA compositions and process the samples, 2) characterize the samples, and 3) investigate the mechanical properties of the samples.
