Title of Contract, Award, or Gift: A multi-level, multi-stage modeling framework for the analysis and design of seawater desalination using renewable energy

Name of Granting or Contracting Agency/Entity: Department of the Interior (DoI)

Program Title: none
CFDA Linked: Water Desalination Research and Development Program

SAMS 1.1.1 The researchers will first conduct a global industry survey on the existing and potential issues on the integration of renewable energy and seawater desalination and the current solutions or mitigation measures. Based on the knowledge gained, we will then develop a generic simulation model to capture the important processes and interactions of the major components of the whole system, with a focus on the identification of key parameters or mechanisms that promote synergy and lead to enhanced performance. Finally, we will use Corpus Christi, TX, as a testing ground for the system model and propose SDURE designs for the first seawater desalination plant in the state, which is currently at the siting and permitting phase.
