SAMS 1.1.1.-Research builds on previous work: identification of HLB resistance and tolerant sources, incorporating resistance traits into citrus through breeding, and trait-marker associations for selection of breeding progeny (development through parallel projects). We propose to develop a pipeline to expedite farm-level implementation of research findings. We will streamline methods for rapid identification of valuable hybrids, determination of broad spectrum resistance to Clas isolates, induction of early flowering for fruit evaluation, interstate movement of budwood, multi-location field trials to assess resistance, horticultural performance and consumer acceptance, and release of selected varieties to the industry.
