Georgia Hejny

Student Representative

Georgia Hejny of Venus, Texas, was appointed to the board of the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board by Governor Greg Abbott in June 2022. She will serve as the board’s student representative through May 31, 2023.

Hejny is a current second-year dental student in the inaugural class of the Woody L. Hunt School of Dental Medicine at Texas Tech University Health Science Center-El Paso (TTUHSC-EP). She graduated from Oklahoma State University in 2021 with a Bachelor of Science in agriculture, majoring in biochemistry and molecular biology with a minor in business.

Hejny grew up on a small cattle ranch, which instilled in her the value of hard work, determination, and helping others. She believes that dentistry can change lives and is excited to one day make a positive impact in a rural Texas community.

Hejny has received multiple accolades throughout her educational career, including the Ferguson College of Agriculture Dean’s Award of Excellence, the Alpha Omicron Pi Collegiate Woman of Leadership Award, and the OSU Honors College Degree. She was awarded the National Junior Angus Association Gold Award for her dedication to the betterment and advancement of the Angus cattle breed.

Currently, Hejny serves as the TTUHSC-EP Student Government Association President, Academy of General Dentistry Treasurer, and American Student Dental Association Fundraising Chair. She is also a member of the Dental Outreach Committee, Texas Angus Association, and the El Paso Zoo Society.

Hejny currently lives in El Paso, Texas, and enjoys playing sports, watching movies, and going to the El Paso Zoo in her free time. She married her best friend, Tanyon Hejny, in December 2022.
