Health Science Advisory Committee

The Health Science Program of Study Advisory Committee (Health Science POS) works to align college and career readiness standards and career and technical education standards with the knowledge, skills, and abilities students are expected to demonstrate. The Health Science POS is made up of representatives from secondary and post-secondary education, business and industry, as well as other career and technical education experts.

Programs of study incorporate multiple entry and exit points which include industry-recognized certifications, Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degrees, and credit transfer agreements. The Health Science POS is charged with identifying and recommending to the Coordinating Board the sequence of courses specific to the health science career cluster which may be transferred to meet degree requirements.

At its December 15, 2015, quarterly meeting, and after a 30-day, statewide comment period ending on November 16, 2015, the Coordinating Board’s Committee on Academic and Workforce Success (CAWS) adopted the Commissioner’s recommendation to establish the Health Science POS. Please see Board rules, Chapter 26, Subchapter H, Sections §26.241-26.247, published in the Texas Register on October 16, 2015. The full Board adopted these rules at its January 21, 2016, meeting, and they became effective on February 22, 2016.
